Reimagining education

Not all storms come to disrupt our lives.

Some come to clear the path.

The question has been asked; How do we get back to “normality” once this is all over?

My answer is this; We have been given an opportunity. An opportunity to start fresh, to reimagine learning and education. The real question is, do we want to return to the old, or create something new?

“We are being presented with a choice:

Evolve or remain.

If we choose to remain unchanged, we will be presented with the same challenges, the same routine, the same storms, the same situations, until we learn from them, until we love yourselves enough to say “no more”, until we choose change. If we choose to evolve, we will connect with the strength within us, we will explore what lies outside the comfort zone, we will awaken to love, we will become, we will BE. We have everything we need. Choose to evolve. Choose love.”

The role of the educator in any society is a sacred one, requiring a great deal of devotion. It is a path many do not choose, but are called to with purpose. Heart-centred teachers radiate passion and dedicate their lives to caring for our littlest human beings. We come into our roles glowing with the desire to make a difference - Now is our chance.

Now is our chance to say no more to the old outdate education system and welcome a way of learning that aligns with our innate way of being.

Learning is life. Learning is not seperate to life, it is the experience of life. You can’t stop living so that you can learn. It is something you need to participate in. Learning is the act of exploration and discovery. It is the building of relationships. Relationships with each other, relationships with nature, relationships with objects, relationships with the world. As we build a relationship with something or someone we develop a connection. A connection built on love.

As a society we lost sight of what is truly important.

Now is our time to find it again.

We have had a break from the busyness and pressures of time. We are remembering how it feels to slow down and find our own natural rhythm. We are tuning in to who we really are and finding a new way of being. We have been given the chance to reset and do things differently. Our children can play, dive into their own interests and be involved in real world experiences. We can hold onto what we value and leave the rest behind.

There is a common view that learning takes place in the classroom or educational institute and that learning needs to be “taught”, when in fact the most meaningful learning comes from lived experiences. The best schools are not seperate from life but are a reflection of life itself.

Families around the world have been given time to connect, to actually sit down and talk to each other, to enjoy each others company, to exchange ideas and truly show an interest in one another. Children are absorbing life in the most authentic way. This is learning.

So, how do we get back to normality once this is all over? We don’t! We don’t go back, we move forward, one step at a time.

We need to feel into the past, acknowledge the things that haven’t been working, release them and reimagine a new form of education.

Deep within our hearts we know that there is a possibility right now for a better future. It’s up to us to make it happen.

“In the rush to return to normal, use this time to consider

which parts of normal are worth rushing back to.”

Dave Hollis

How do you imagine the future of education?

How do your children imagine their future?
